Confederates preparing for war!

Steady progress is being made! I'm starting to enjoy painting these now! There's enough variety in the clothing to mean its not getting boring, but probably takes a little longer than painting the uniformed Unionists.

Hot off the production line are:

Another ranked unit and a command stand.

I'm told this is now enough for us to start some small games so we can get to grips with it. I'm hoping to have another ranked unit and an overall command base done before we do however.

But then we go to Derby World tomorrow and there was talk of buying cavalry and artillery.... Not sure what I want to purchase there, apart from a KR multi case for my Bolt Action stuff. I'm sure the usual amount of goading will occur and we'll all come back with something we hadn't expected to buy!

Painting progress!

Hello! Between redecorating what feels like the entire house, and work, I managed to get some painting and gaming in! Hurrah!

Apart from board and card games, Wes and I managed to get 1000 point game of Bolt Action in. Long story short, I won, and as Wes has no blog to refute these claims, I won by miles! Although rather annoyingly Wes does seem to be picking the game up quite quickly. Veteran Sherman tanks with 3 mmgs are filthy, and also very hard to blow up! In most part due to my Panzershrek team being cross eyed...

Anyway, here is the first of my painted stuff:

6mm Confederates! 2 units of skirmishers and a ranked unit. Now I have refined my painting method I can paint these up quite quickly. Another couple of bases and a couple of mounted officers and we'll be trying a game using the Black Powder rules. Don't want to paint too much without playing a game in case I do too many of one type and don't end up using them!

Next up is this:

I'm sure the others will love to see this, another mmg team for my Germans! Most lists allow you 2, so I thought why not! I think I've now well over 1000 points of Germans painted, enabling me to put some variety into my army lists.

Next on the painting table is a ranked unit of confederates, and then I'll be onto the squad of SS I've bought! Looking forward to doing these, as the camp will provide a nice change from the usual German uniform.

This may all change as Derby World is next weekend and I have no idea what to buy! Still itching to do a British Commando army....

Back to blogging!

So, its me! Woo hoo!

Let me explain. I bought a tablet, which meant I hardly ever turn my laptop on anymore, and thats what I used to use to blog! However, Matt and Kieron seem to be having a "See who can post a years worth of blogs in a weekend" competition and told me about the blogger app, so here we are! And boy does the blogger app suck massive hairy balls! Well, i'll keep playing with it and see...

I've still been painting and gaming lots. I now have over 1000 points worth of Germans for my Bolt Action force. I'll post some pictures of these when we've finished the decorate-a-thon the other half is forcing me at gunpoint to partake in, and the house isn't a total shit tip!

  

As you can see, these are 6mm ACW Confederates! This new project all kicked off whilst I was in Canada trying not to be eaten by bears... The others that I game with went to the 'Joy of 6' show while i was away and picked this as our next project. This isn't a war I'm even vaguely interested in, but that may change!

These only took about half an hour to paint once I'd played about with what colours I'm going to use, so hopefully having to paint 3 billion of the little bleeders won't take forever... Waiting for my bases and flags I've ordered from Baccus to arrive so I can finish them off all nice!

Anyway, just a short post for now to prove that I'm not dead!

Small update!

So, very little actual wargaming has gone on these last few months! Still playing with the usual people but we seem to have slipped into a boardgame and Attack Wing cycle!

Some of this is due to apathy. Some due to us trying to slowly bludgeon Wes into wargaming.

Recently however the urge for playing games with small plastic models we've painted has picked up again. I've even painted something new! And here it is:

Its a Panzer II Luchs for my bolt action Germans! A cheap little recon tank that will be more suitable in the smaller games we're playing at the moment. Until Kieron pulls his finger out and paints some Soviets....

Planning on filling out my force a bit more. Have a small pile of models that need painting before I buy anything else. Still not sure what my next project should be!

Long time, no see!

Its been a while since my last post. No excuses really! Feverish painting continued and then apathy once again set in...

First up is my British FOW infantry. Have now managed to paint a whole rifle platoon! Woo hoo! Its almost a legal army.... Only a few more stands and it will be. But here it is:

So, thats the platoon in the background with my 1ic and 2ic in front. Still enjoying painting these so hopefully won't be long before the other platoon is done and I can get a game in with them.

Next off the paint line was more Bolt Action Germans. Have now passed my 500 point target with these as you can see below:

A nice number of troops with a good variety of weapons. However, saying that, I am still to win a game! I think I've lost 3 or 4 times to Matt and then drawn twice against Kieron. I am learning however! Haven't got to use the Panzer IV yet as its a few too many points for the 500 point games we've been playing. Really enjoy playing the game though and we seem to be getting faster at it as we managed to fit 2 games in last night. First was a draw between Kieron and I and then a draw between Kieron and Matt.

Since my last post Derby World occured and I managed to come away £150 lighter.... Was happy with everything I came away with this time as I took a leaf from the other halfs book and wrote myself a list! For my FOW I bought a Hurricaine for some British air support and another couple of BA10's for my Soviets.

Bolt Action was my main spend though. Mainly on terrain as I can away with £85 worth of 4ground houses as seen below:

These are the pre-painted ones and they are fantastic for the price! Thought it might take me a while to build them but once I'd started I couldn't stop and got them all done in a day. I did end up covered in glue with orange finger tips from the mdf but it was worth it! Going to get a few more of these now I've seen how much of my 6'x4' table they cover. My other BA purchases was the Panzer IV above and an MMG team which will be the next thing off the paint table.

Also bougth some BA orders dice for Kieron and myself. We both really like the special dice, like these and the Saga dice. However, Matt "Tightwad" Von Crankypants doesn't share the love so Kieron had the idea of us doing secret Santa, so he will end up with some. Its his own fault if he ends up with some poo brown coloured dice though....

Lastly, Xyston were at the event and I managed to pick up some lovely models which will eventually be my Carthaginian baggage marker.

Overall I was happy with my purchases but felt that there were a few traders who weren't there that I would have expected. But then I had a nice bacon sandwich so it all evens out in the end!

Wow! Productive week!

Well, for me anyway! Went from painting apathy to full steam ahead.

First up was another unit for my Carthaginian Impetus army. Love these Xyston models! Very very well sculpted but not overly deatailed so as to make them a chore to paint. Also, even if I do say so myself, they've turned out pretty well!

Next off the paint table are these 2:

The guy on the left being the German Officer I mentioned in my last post that was painted but not photographed. The other is my Kubelwagon! Bought this to add a cheap vehicle to my army but also so that next time we play Bolt Action we can get a feel for how vehicles work in the game. Plus it gives me some added firepower with its medium machine gun....

Finally are these:

Now, for these, an explanation is needed. It's all Kierons fault.

Maybe I should expand on that! These are a British machine gun platoon which were given to me by Kieron as he'd received them for free, wasn't going to use them, and I had mentioned some plans for doing a British force at some point. As my other armies are tank based I have been wanting to do an infantry force. My worry was that I'd get bogged down painting infantry and never get to use them. These therefore were a test to see how much I enjoyed painting them as how quickly I could do them without them looking crap!

The test went well! I painted and based the whole platoon in only 2 days! Quick for me. As other have pointed out, the Battlefront infantry can be painted without too much care needed to the finer details and given a wash. The Plastic Soldier Company Russians I have on the other hand need the detail painting or they would look a bit flat and lifeless.

All in all this has resulted in me buying a command and 2 rifle platoons, which arrived in the post this morning, and also buying 3 Sherman V tanks from Matt which he has decided not to use.

Thats it for now, I just hope this painting frenzy of mine continues!
